Hmmm… last time the Catholic Church had utter control in Canada, we just need to ask Quebecois who were alive before the quiet revolution… or the victims of the early fur trade…how it faired for a religious institution to colonize their world.

Battling what they call a rising tide of “radical secularism,” the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops on Monday issued a call to Catholics to rebel against keeping their religion at home, even if they have to suffer the consequences.

“It’s an invitation to make sure that the religious voice — even when it challenges — is listened to and heard,” said Richard Smith, Archbishop of the Edmonton diocese and president of the conference.

In a 12-page pastoral letter, the bishops call for a greater role for religion in government and for Christian professionals and civil servants to exercise conscientious objection on the issues of abortion, birth control and gay marriage.
