On his first Sunday as the Bishop of Rome, Pope Francis also issued his first papal Tweet, telling his flock to pray for him.
“Dear friends, I thank you from my heart and ask you to continue to pray for me,” wrote the new pope on the account @Pontifex (Latin for “bridge-builder”) only minutes after addressing a crowd of 150,000 in St. Peter’s Square.
The message, which has been re-Tweeted more than 23,000 times as of Sunday night, echoes his inaugural statements from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica, in which he asked those gathered below to “pray to the Lord to bless me.”
