It is always intriguing when I walk groups through the Self-Care Coaching Wheel as inevitably I know there is a portion that will trip people up and cause unnecessary consternation despite our enlightened times. It is the concept of spirituality. It can be a stumbling block to be ignored, due to the fact we jump to definitional conclusions. Either fully structured religion, which most carry the stereotypes (quite a few well earned) from the extremist or fundamentalist sects or, the flip, where the idea of spirituality moves into the more extreme new agey style concepts. Neither are beneficial, though both may be a part of someone’s spiritual life as with everything in between both extremes. What this area speaks to is the intrinsic things one does, that renews them. An example I use to open up the creative exploration of the intrinsic renewal is the idea of story, and usually share the latest fiction I am reading–this time around my Whovian was showing:

The Tenth Doctor and Donna travel through the story of Camelot…

And boy was this a great time of renewal, a fun adventure, Donna Noble was one of the companions that does not get the kudos deserved for the fun she brought to the adventures, but this book felt like seeing an episode, but I digress for it opened up the story of Arthur and his Knights once more to me. An amusing aside, through genealogy in the Welsh side of my family lineage goes back to Moroccan royalty, a one Uther PenDragon, which if you had an awesome Dad like I did growing up who would tape late night movies he thought his kids would like, would have known Uther as Arthur’s Dad, thanks to the amazing sword and sorcery fun of Excalibur:

Epic Climatic Battle of Arthur and Mordred

But there is more links to this story and life impact. See in elementary school I had a speech therapist (which was fun, also uniquely, was my Nan & Granddad’s neighbour’s daughter), and as such I didn’t always like to read aloud in class, I usually would take the same books out of the school library, as then if I had to, I knew them well (at home I’d read anything, my folks always made sure we got to the library and used bookstores). One school library trip I found a rather large book, King Arthur and His Knights, and was refused from signing it out because it was beyond me, I was 7 or 8 at the time.

I was not happy, and shared with my Mum and Dad at supper, and after dinner, my Dad took me to the mall and the bookstore there, probably a WHSmithbooks in that time (this was back in the era dear readers when all malls had bookstores, that had diversity of books available). There he found and bought a rather thick hardcover book for me to take to school for reading and for the next book report:

So yes, having folks who believe in you, and encourage you to challenge and grow is a good thing in life. Taking a risk, and not accepting the limits others place upon you.

The story of magic and adventure resonated. Things that have growtn out of there in my own life-

The first Vacation Bible School (VBS) I was part of planning and facilitating we had group time in the sanctuary, where I moved out all the chairs and with masking tape created a roundtable on the floor, as the equality that all belonged, all opinions and ideas mattered–all God’s kids belonged together. This gathering space became important for volunteers and families to share in, as my first VBS was during the time of the Pinelake Tornado in Alberta.

Magic happens, and is real (like I tell my kids, and my Mum told us growing up, if you do not believe, Santa and the Easter Bunny don’t visit 🙂 because why can’t we allow for magic and fun in life).

Purpose matters. The various stories of the knights told of purpose, many times not tied to money, but rather who and what was meant to happen. This has been an important growth within my practice, that purpose and job are not mutually exclusive.

The Holy Grail, what a fun winding story. For those who enjoy deutero-canonical-apocryphal-Gnostic Christian writings, know that the Grail (and a nod to Dan Brown for riveting mystery in Da Vinci Code, and Garth Ennis for the satire horror in The Preacher) speaks possibly to the blood line of Jesus, son of Mary, of Nazareth. The growth of the idea being Jesus and Mary Magdalene married and had a family (Kazanzakis’ The Last Temptation of Christ explored alterantive ideas of what if Jesus did not go to the Cross, but I digress–as you can see being encouraged to be curious, to read, and explore does a mind good from a young age). Some have said the concept of Jesus being married is heresy, though one has to ask, for someone completely humna, and completely divine does it change your faith if he was also a Dad?

There is also ideas around immortality being tied to a physical cup that Jesus used to serve the institution of the Eucharist/Communion. This concept, that grew into the history of the Grail Knights was explored in the film, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (almost 40 year old spoiler ahead):

The concept of the hero’s quest, many concepts immortalized for newer generations in the Star Wars universe. A constant reminder, that in our own personal stories, we are the hero on the journey, just an in other’s stories we are there supporting casts.

But purpose, belonging are themes that grow forward from Arthurian legends for me, with the intersection of how these stories came into my own life. The lived pieces and what it means to be a parent, a Dad.

Take time to pause each day, and feed the intrinsic pieces of you, renew, and reconnect with who you are.

  1. How can you see the splinter in your brother’s eye while you have chunks within your own?
21.First take the chunks from out your eye and then you may behold the splinter in your brother’s eye and help him take it out,
    22. And while your eyes are full of foreign things you cannot see the way, for you are blind,
    23. And when the blind lead forth the blind, both lose the way and fall into the slough.
    24. If you would lead the way to God you must be clear in sight, as well as pure in heart.

-Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ 100: 20-24

Zed attempted to kill me instead of allowing the journey to free my friend to unfold. The question that needed to be asked is freed from what? Something was blocking me. In some religions, they call it sin. In other forms of spiritualism, it is the ego or the shadow that derails you out of the flow of creation. Is this what the Thor entity represented to my friend?

Ancient Rabbi Jesus of Nazareth taught about the log in your own eye while you picked at another friend’s sin.  The challenge on not being able to see yourself or what is going wrong because there is always someone else you can say “at least I am no them” or “at least its not that.” Completely missing the point that those chunks floating around within your own eye are clouding your soul. Is this the journey, better yet the grail quest I am on now? To be able to remove the chunks from my own eye? Release my ego and re-enter the flow properly? Is that where this journey is leading.

Susan is lightly snoring on the sofa when I re-enter the house, Pen is still on my shoulder purring…yes, I realize it is weird to think that a dragon would purr, but the gaffer is species fluid. I pull up the afghan on to her. She mumbles slightly and turns her head into my bruised knuckles. After all these years, you would think I would learn how to throw a punch that wouldn’t hurt so much? Check that I am used to throwing punches in mystical armour, but Zed had shown something is going down, and I need to figure out how to bridge the gap.

It is almost impulsive to rub my own eyes as I slump on the floor by her head. The light in the hall way lights the way to the girls’ room. My two empaths that can give you a clear read on any person in the world and their intention. It is one of the blessings that come with there being differently abled.

Susan stirs. “Rick did you…”

“Zed attempted to kill me.”

I let that statement hang in the air. Not exactly something she was expecting to hear, but not shocking enough to fully awake my dozing wife. Though I guess she has come to the same conclusion that I did, this immortal wants to seek revenge against the antagonist entity, or is there something else? Since the ashram beat down that teaching of Brother Jesus has been bouncing around in my brain the chunks I am looking through to hyper focus on the speck.  What is the speck?

“The speck is John’s ghost.” Susan mumbles before turning back over to sleep.

The speck is John’s ghost.

What are the chunks in my own eyes?

Time to go back to the grave, the fist chunk is my own grief.

Pen slips quietly into my coat pocket as I once again leave the house locking the door behind me. Towards the cemetery to clear the chunks from my own eyes to clearly see. See what?

Grail quest. For some it was the cup of Christ, that which he drank from at the Last Supper, that which Judas and Peter, the yin-yang of the Holy Week happenings shared communion with the Lord. Sought by the supposed source I am resurrected from when I speak my mantra, Arthur PenDragon who searched many years for the Grail. Yet more recently some have supposed that the Grail was the Sacred Feminine, or even the ancient line of Christ himself as carried through his bride in gnostic teachings of Mary Magdalene, who it is believed by legend fled to France post resurrection.

But where does this lead me? Except into a foggy old cemetery at night. Standing before the grave marker of my friend. John MacCurtis. Needing to dive back into the divine flow to truly see where he is resting. To release his soul into resurrection or release? What choice will he make? Pen stirs again as I kneel on the damp ground.

The cross of life, or as some would know it as an Ankh on the ground digging into the ground of the grave. The Latin comes through my connection to Pen.   The chunks have fallen away as the incantation concludes and lightning flashes in my eyes.

Golden lightning.

Time to re-enter Camelot a place I thought long destroyed but that is the revelation for the grail is beyond the veil and the cross of life reveals the face of my friend.

One last time into the breach.

“Bionics on.”

Lightning crashes the ground.

Across the city, a woman with blue flame streaked hair sits upright fully awake on a couch. “Come home to me Rick or by God I will kill you.” A lone tear trickles down her face for fear this may be the one time she won’t be the grail he seeks to come home through.

In the Christianities of the world, the most venerated person, after Jesus of Nazareth, is his mum, Mary. It is amazing when you think about her, why would so many turn to her? Why as recently as 50 years ago would the largest group of Christians debate whether or not to make her a co-redeemer with Christ?  Is this peasant girl turned Mother of God so important?

Simple, in the patriarchal and misogynistic cover up that began in the 300’s with first Constantine, and then followed by others as the message of peace, love, hope, faith, and joy was co-opted for political gains…the mystical, the grandmother tradition was ripped out of it. Even it seems in more progressive thought that has emerged within spiritualities in the late nineteenth to early 21st centuries we still tend to focus overtly on the masculine when it comes to naming something, or if we work with the feminine we leave it very mystical and out there.

This morning we are going to get down and dirty with what has become the archetype for the Goddess, the feminine side of God, once in Hebrew yore known simply as Wisdom, or has a name now, a name that we can claim and should claim as part of our story. That name is Mary.

Who is she now? She is an apparition that has been appearing to individuals and communities since twenty years before her death. The first recorded sighting of her is in 40 CE to James, a follower of the Way, and she has continued since then. She has appeared most famously in Lourdes and Guatemala, but do you know she started appearing 10 years before hostilities broke out in the former Yugoslavia and all the way throughout the brutality of war, genocide, and rape there attempting to get anyone from any side to listen to the message of the creator for the children. The message? Well it was the same one she brought to Rwanda as well.

That we as a people need to journey deep into the heart of the Holy Mystery to drink deeply of the divine love, and then live this love, all inclusive, all welcoming, rending of labels love out into our world as the antidote for the spiritual illness of hatred that has manifested itself and is destroying us.

A message that she has been resonating with since the First Century CE, a message she spreads in her appearing by taking on the form of whatever is familiar to those in the area whether it be a hag, witch, fairy queen, a divine light, a young woman, a crone, whatever form you can imagine a woman being in to be heard in whichever community comes to mind is how the Holy Mystery sends Mary to bring the message, the same message her son brings when we enter into the Cosmic Christ and it enters into us, unfortunately the political whims of the world have co-opted, abused, and destroyed the name of the simple labourer’s son from Nazareth, so that it is the in the peasant woman who found her voice we hear the clarion call for Love and peace.

So obviously this woman must have a powerful story.  There is much out there about Mary one can Google, or look up, read, even meditations, prayers and services. But it is within the ancient stories we discover who this person is when set in the proper context.

For those of us in New Thought, the Fillmore’s were a product of their generation, and as such the archetypes are tied to the 12 males that walked with Jesus, who was the Cosmic Consciousness the archetypes fed into, these are:  Faith, Love, Strength, Wisdom, Power, Imagination, Purity, Understanding, Will, Order, Enthusiasm, and Life. Those are the twelve powers tied exclusively to the male disciples, yet as you hear about the life of Mary, and then experience Mary’s yes for yourself, the question I pose is simply, is she only one power or is she like her son, the culmination of all? The true twinning of Male/Female…the Holy Grail for some.

She lived in a small town, in a nation that was under occupation by an Empire. Where the people were seen as nothing more than livestock, as a girl, until she could bear children she was seen as a burden on her family, for occupiers she was seen as nothing more than a sex toy if they chose. Once of child bearing age or even before her father would enter a business relationship with another man who wished to purchase the daughter on the hope that a) she could bear children, b) that child be a son. Other than that her role was to take care of the home, even when widowed and the elder son cared for her, it was still up to her to keep the home.

This was an agreement by and for men, that the child was expected to abide by. Once signed she was betrothed to this man, and any visitations or signs of impropriety with a male would end in her either a) being cast out of the city walls, or b) taken before the patriarchal religious authorities and stoned to death.

A world where the faith was passed down though at the apron hem of the mothers, aunts and grandmothers to all genders, until the boys became men at age 12, and at age 30 were expected to wed, move into the main house, and build on attachments to care for their parents and if need be, wives parents. Yet the germination of faith started from the women.

This is a child who never was asked what she thought, was only told what to do. We shall in a moment experience the time she found her voice.

But if you ever enter into the gospel stories of Mary, watch her, she is an amazing woman. Struggling with her own challenges and fears, she goes and helps her aged and pregnant cousin to deliver a prophet into the world even while her betrothed contemplates having her stoned to death or simply cast out to the sex trade workers outside the city walls for the transgression of carrying a child not his; she pushes her son to act out of love and hospitality at a wedding feast; she follows him as a world executes her child, not a prophet or a messiah to her, but her child…as they beat him, and lynch him. She watches it all, and she buries him. She holds his movement together by finding the right people to become leaders. This peasant girl from a town probably no bigger than Bassano, Alberta from a family lower than labour class as it is a labourer that purchases her to be a child bride. Yet it is the simplicity of her strength that shakes the world from its oppression, and that she continues to shine her light into the darkness of destruction, death, feminine, plague, hatred and war and shines brighter still to watch those answer the call of love into the Holy Mystery, and living that love out to transform their world.

We are going to take a moment to enter into that love ourselves this morning. It is a spiritual exercise from Ignatius of Loyola for studying sacred texts, whatever you find sacred texts or music to be.  You hear or read it three times. Each time we rest with a question and seek an answer.  This story is called “The Annunciation” it is the story of the Holy asking Mary to bear a child. My family always ponders how many girls said no because they knew the outcast they would become? But that is a question to ponder another day.

Get comfortable in your seat. Close your eyes. Slow your breath, discovering your rhythm and becoming one with the environment around you. Let your mind cleanse itself, do not worry if a thought pops up, acknowledged it, and then place it aside until after. Feel the pew and this building melt away, feel the dust of the old world, the bustle of livestock, chattering of children working and playing, women talking, perhaps the clang of soldiers moving throughout the village. You are entering into the announcement, you are a thirteen year old peasant girl, who has just been bought by a 50ish year old man to bear his child.

As you prepare to hear the story for the first time, sit and listen, which of the 12 powers are you seeing in action? And let that shape your contemplation of the story.

Read Luke 1:26-39

As you prepare to hear the story a second time, what images are formed or memories surface in your mind as you hear these words? Let you sit with these images/memories and see how the Holy uses them.

For the third and final hearing, can you feel Mary’s anxiety or trepidation to say yes, when was there a time in your life that seizing your yes in love meant a harder road? Sit with that memory and know that, like Mary, you are transforming this world.

Slowly bring your breath back to normal, feel the pew beneath you, the dust melt off you, the sounds of the village vanish, the sounds of the city and this room greet you. Bring your breathing rhythmically up to its normal pace, open your eyes.

Welcome back Mary, how shall we let love Reign in this world?

Revelation is an amazing encouragement to 7 churches under persecution of the Empire (Satan/beast), most notably the Anti-Christ (Emperor). We have had an eventful fall dissecting, discussing and experiencing this letter collection in the Rainbow Chapel. What follows is the last 4 chapters with my thoughts, please feel free to comment with your own.

Revelation 19-22

Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

Celebration in Heaven

19 After this I heard something like the loud voice of a vast multitude in heaven, saying:

Salvation, glory, and power belong to our God,
because His judgments are true[a] and righteous,
because He has judged the notorious prostitute
who corrupted the earth with her sexual immorality;
and He has avenged the blood of His slaves
that was on her hands.

A second time they said:

Her smoke ascends forever and ever!

Then the 24 elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God, who is seated on the throne, saying:

The four living creatures are the Evangelists, could the 24 elders be the two witnesses of each tribe of Israel?

Amen! Hallelujah!

A voice came from the throne, saying:

Praise our God,
all His slaves, who fear Him,
both small and great!

Are we truly slaves of God? By being a slave does it mean that predestination is true? We have no free will and control? How can this ideal of text be abused, becoming a sinful scripture to damage others, instead of being a source of encouragement. Simply put this image could be encouraging because it moves one from outside society where a Christian would be during these persecutions to belonging to someone, and in this case the creator of all that is.

Marriage of the Lamb Announced

Then I heard something like the voice of a vast multitude, like the sound of cascading waters, and like the rumbling of loud thunder, saying:

Hallelujah, because our Lord God, the Almighty,
has begun to reign!
Let us be glad, rejoice, and give Him glory,
because the marriage of the Lamb has come,
and His wife has prepared herself.
She was given fine linen to wear, bright and pure.

Intriguing allusion here. Is this a show that the early church saw Mary as the Wife of God, not just the Mother of Christ? Or is it a commentary that would be familiar upon the early church that Jesus had a wife? Not just the metaphor of the church as his wife, but a physical wife that could lend itself to the San Greal (Holy Grail) being not the cup of the Last Supper, but the bloodline of Christ through marriage into Mary Magdalene?

For the fine linen represents the righteous acts of the saints.

Then he[b] said to me, “Write: Those invited to the marriage feast of the Lamb are fortunate!” He also said to me, “These words of God are true.” 10 Then I fell at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow slave with you and your brothers who have the testimony about[c] Jesus. Worship God, because the testimony about Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”[d]

The spirit of prophecy is not about future events, it is the trajectory of building the loving and just world of God’s design rather than the selfish world that destroys Her children.

The Rider on a White Horse

11 Then I saw heaven opened, and there was a white horse. Its rider is called Faithful and True, and He judges and makes war in righteousness. 12 His eyes were like a fiery flame, and many crowns[e] were on His head. He had a name written that no one knows except Himself. 13 He wore a robe stained with blood,[f] and His name is the Word of God. 14 The armies that were in heaven followed Him on white horses, wearing pure white linen. 15 A sharp[g] sword came from His mouth, so that He might strike the nations with it. He will shepherd[h] them with an iron scepter. He will also trample the winepress of the fierce anger of God, the Almighty. 16 And He has a name written on His robe and on His thigh:

War imagery of the ascended Christ bursting back into history, much reminiscent of what ancient Israel was expecting in a Messiah, that being more of a Macabbean warrior king, not a peacemaker of inclusion.  So why is this image here and now?

The Beast and His Armies Defeated

17 Then I saw an angel standing on[i] the sun, and he cried out in a loud voice, saying to all the birds flying high overhead, “Come, gather together for the great supper of God, 18 so that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of commanders, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of their riders, and the flesh of everyone, both free and slave, small and great.”

Is this literal cannibalism? No, think of the allegory or imagery needed to understand that God is superior to all. In earlier chapters the Exodus story was alluded to, especially the plagues, and here what is alluded to is the battles of claiming the Promised Land.

19 Then I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse and against His army. 20 But the beast was taken prisoner, and along with him the false prophet, who had performed the signs in his presence. He deceived those who accepted the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image with these signs. Both of them were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur. 21 The rest were killed with the sword that came from the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds were filled with their flesh.

From the claiming of the Promised Land, into the spirit of prophecy when ignored too ancient Israel into exile, and within exile where those thought it would be easier to side with the conquerors that stay true, and in the process lost their identity.  A warning to the churches undergoing persecution that if they choose to turn back to the Empire they will simply vanish… as the 10 tribes that never returned from Exile did.

Satan Bound

20 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven with the key to the abyss and a great chain in his hand. He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent who is the Devil and Satan,[j] and bound him for 1,000 years. He threw him into the abyss, closed it, and put a seal on it so that he would no longer deceive the nations until the 1,000 years were completed. After that, he must be released for a short time.

Satan, not the fallen angel first vanquished by St. Michael The Archangel in the war of Heaven, or the spiritual war that was decided at the cross… rather the Emperor of Rome, a satan that is bound because when push comes to shove, same as Pharaoh, Babylon, Assyria, Canann before, God is in control and the simple perversity has no true control.

The Saints Reign with the Messiah

Then I saw thrones, and people seated on them who were given authority to judge. I also saw the people[k] who had been beheaded[l] because of their testimony about Jesus and because of God’s word, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and who had not accepted the mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with the Messiah for 1,000 years. The rest of the dead did not come to life until the 1,000 years were completed. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! The second death has no power[m] over them, but they will be priests of God and of the Messiah, and they will reign with Him for 1,000 years.

Staying faithful. Building the reign of God slowly means that it takes root, as Jesus reminds us in the Gospel of Mark where Jesus reminds us to turn to God because the Reign is almost here, but it is us that makes it reality and overthrows the oppressor.

Satanic Rebellion Crushed

When the 1,000 years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle. Their number is like the sand of the sea. They came up over the surface of the earth and surrounded the encampment of the saints, the beloved city. Then fire came down from heaven[n] and consumed them. 10 The Devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet are, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

Anti-Christs, satans will always rise up, but as we continually work to make the world better will it not matter in the end? In the end, there will be a choice to build a just global society or simply one of the strongest (wealthiest) survive.

The Great White Throne Judgment

11 Then I saw a great white throne and One seated on it. Earth and heaven fled from His presence, and no place was found for them. 12 I also saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life, and the dead were judged according to their works by what was written in the books.

13 Then the sea gave up its dead, and Death and Hades gave up their dead; all[o] were judged according to their works. 14 Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.[p] 15 And anyone not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.

The New Creation

21 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea no longer existed. I also saw the Holy City, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband.

Then I heard a loud voice from the throne:[q]

Look! God’s dwelling[r] is with humanity,
and He will live with them.
They will be His people,
and God Himself will be with them
and be their God.[s]
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
Death will no longer exist;
grief, crying, and pain will exist no longer,
because the previous things[t] have passed away.

Then the One seated on the throne said, “Look! I am making everything new.” He also said, “Write, because these words[u] are faithful and true.” And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give water as a gift to the thirsty from the spring of life. The victor will inherit these things, and I will be his God, and he will be My son. But the cowards, unbelievers,[v] vile, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars—their share will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

The New Jerusalem

Then one of the seven angels, who had held the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues, came and spoke with me: “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” 10 He then carried me away in the Spirit[w] to a great and high mountain and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, 11 arrayed with God’s glory. Her radiance was like a very precious stone, like a jasper stone, bright as crystal. 12 The city had a massive high wall, with 12 gates. Twelve angels were at the gates; the names of the 12 tribes of Israel’s sons were inscribed on the gates. 13 There were three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west. 14 The city wall had 12 foundations, and the 12 names of the Lamb’s 12 apostles were on the foundations.

15 The one who spoke with me had a gold measuring rod to measure the city, its gates, and its wall. 16 The city is laid out in a square; its length and width are the same. He measured the city with the rod at 12,000 stadia.[x] Its length, width, and height are equal. 17 Then he measured its wall, 144 cubits according to human measurement, which the angel used. 18 The building material of its wall was jasper, and the city was pure gold like clear glass.

19 The foundations of the city wall were adorned with every kind of precious stone:

the first foundation jasper,
the second sapphire,
the third chalcedony,
the fourth emerald,
20 the fifth sardonyx,
the sixth carnelian,
the seventh chrysolite,
the eighth beryl,
the ninth topaz,
the tenth chrysoprase,
the eleventh jacinth,
the twelfth amethyst.

21 The 12 gates are 12 pearls; each individual gate was made of a single pearl. The broad street[y] of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.

22 I did not see a sanctuary in it, because the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its sanctuary. 23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because God’s glory illuminates it, and its lamp is the Lamb. 24 The nations[z] will walk in its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it.[aa] 25 Each day its gates will never close because it will never be night there. 26 They will bring the glory and honor of the nations into it.[ab] 27 Nothing profane will ever enter it: no one who does what is vile or false, but only those written in the Lamb’s book of life.

What has preceded is simply the reality of what happens when we truly live the Lord’s Prayer (Our Father) reflect on it: (yes there are many versions here)

The Source of Life

22 Then he showed me the river[ac] of living water, sparkling like crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the broad street of the city. The tree of life[ad] was on both sides of the river, bearing 12 kinds of fruit, producing its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree are for healing the nations, and there will no longer be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city,[ae] and His slaves will serve Him. They will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads. Night will no longer exist, and people will not need lamplight or sunlight, because the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign forever and ever.

The Time Is Near

Then he said to me, “These words are faithful and true. And the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets,[af] has sent His angel to show His slaves what must quickly take place.”[ag]

“Look, I am coming quickly! The one who keeps the prophetic words of this book is blessed.”

I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. When I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had shown them to me. But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow slave with you, your brothers the prophets, and those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.” 10 He also said to me, “Don’t seal the prophetic words of this book, because the time is near. 11 Let the unrighteous go on in unrighteousness; let the filthy go on being made filthy; let the righteous go on in righteousness; and let the holy go on being made holy.”

12 “Look! I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me to repay each person according to what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes,[ah] so that they may have the right to the tree of life and may enter the city by the gates. 15 Outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying.

16 “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to attest these things to you[ai] for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright Morning Star.”

17 Both the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” Anyone who hears should say, “Come!” And the one who is thirsty should come. Whoever desires should take the living water as a gift.

18 I testify to everyone who hears the prophetic words of this book: If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book. 19 And if anyone takes away from the words of this prophetic book, God will take away his share of the tree of life and the holy city, written in this book.

20 He who testifies about these things says, “Yes, I am coming quickly.”

Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!

21 The grace of the Lord Jesus[aj] be with all the saints.[ak] Amen.[al]

So be it… so what is the encouragement for the church today? What would you write to the local community churches within your area to step up and create the world God has called us to create?
